Zelle vs. Venmo for business

Zelle vs. Venmo for business: who really charges you?

Venmo and Cash App are only free for personal use. The moment you accept money as a business, they require a business account — and every business account charges a per-payment fee. Zelle doesn’t have a business-account fee tier, which is exactly why AxeFee builds on it.

Why AxeFee is Zelle-first

Zelle is the one mainstream rail that stays genuinely free for real businesses.

💸

No percentage on receiving

Banks don’t charge to receive Zelle — there’s no business tier to upgrade into.

🏦

Money in your own bank

No wallet, no cash-out step, no instant-transfer surcharge.

It matches itself

AxeFee reconciles each Zelle payment to the right order automatically.

🧾

A real checkout on top

Invoices, event tickets, donations, memberships, bookings — all fee-free.

📲

Share one link or QR

Customers pay from the Zelle already inside their banking app.

🤝

Compliant by design

No personal-account workarounds that break an app’s rules.

“Free” apps monetize business receiving. Zelle doesn’t.

That’s the whole reason AxeFee is built on Zelle — and why you keep 100%. We add the professional checkout, receipts, and automatic matching on top.

Common questions

Isn’t Venmo free?

For sending money to friends, yes. But accepting business income requires a Venmo business profile (or goods-and-services tagging), which charges 1.9% + 10¢ per payment. Using a personal account for business breaks Venmo’s rules.

What does Cash App charge a business?

Cash App for Business charges about 2.75% per payment received. As with Venmo, running business income through a personal account is against their terms.

Why is Zelle different?

Banks don’t charge to receive Zelle, and there’s no separate “business account” fee tier — so you keep 100%. AxeFee adds the checkout, receipts, and automatic reconciliation Zelle doesn’t include on its own.

How do payments get matched automatically?

Every order gets its own reference, and AxeFee automatically matches each incoming Zelle payment to the right order and marks it paid — so you stop reconciling by hand. There’s a quick one-time connection during setup, and after that it just runs.
